Best Forex Brokers for Colombian Traders

Colombia's financial regulator doesn't license retail forex/CFD brokers as a distinct activity, so Colombian traders, like most of Latin America, rely on offshore-regulated brokers. The SFC has been actively warning residents about unauthorised platforms, which makes checking a broker's real regulator worthwhile.

What Colombian regulation actually means here

The Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC) requires any entity managing public funds, explicitly including forex-related activity, to be authorised, and restricts how such products can be advertised in Colombia to SFC-authorised representative offices, brokerage firms, or financial corporations. In practice, the SFC does not license retail forex/CFD brokers as a standalone regulated activity, so essentially all retail forex/CFD trading by Colombians happens through brokers regulated abroad, outside the SFC’s direct authorisation perimeter.

The SFC has been active on enforcement-adjacent warnings: in October 2025 it publicly flagged the firm SmartSTP for offering forex, CFDs, and other instruments to Colombian residents without the necessary local permits, noting it had already received more than 20 complaints from people who deposited funds and then couldn’t withdraw them. As with several other countries on this list, the SFC has stated it cannot process complaints against unauthorised offshore platforms, so the risk sits with the trader’s choice of broker. FOGAFIN, Colombia’s deposit-guarantee fund, insures bank deposit products only and explicitly does not cover investment or trading accounts.

Practically speaking: the SFC cannot help you recover funds from an unauthorised offshore platform, so checking the broker's actual foreign regulator (and its enforcement track record) is your main protection.

Colombian traders typically fund accounts via PSE (Pagos Seguros en Línea), Colombia’s real-time online bank-transfer rail supported by around 20 affiliated banks, and Nequi, a widely used Bancolombia-linked digital wallet. Most international brokers still require USD-denominated funding via card or wire, though, since accounts are typically USD-based. Colombian tax residents should also be aware that foreign assets above a set threshold must be declared to DIAN.
